Hearts and Gizzards Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

The Hearts and Gizzards Quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co.

Never judge a quilt by its name—even if that name is Swamp Angel, Corn and Beans, or Oklahoma Boomer.

Because if wack-a-doo names scare you off, you will miss gems like this week’s new quilt: Hearts and Gizzards. (Yep, Hearts…and Gizzards.)

The Hearts and Gizzards Quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co.

Hearts and Gizzards is a gorgeous, old-fashioned layer cake pattern composed of pretty hearts that form flowers (or gizzards?). It’s dainty. It’s feminine. And its name is absolutely weird!

From the Heart Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

The From the Heart Quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co. Watch the free quilt tutorial today.

I met a young quilter whose mother was diagnosed with cancer. Right away, this sweet daughter began to put together a special “chemo quilt.” Each of the kids and grandkids contributed a block. The quilt was completed the day before the first treatment, and this brave grandmother was able to face her new journey wrapped in the love of her family.

Quilt Reveal: Heart Quilt from High Road Quilter

When I learned that you could make a heart with squares and rectangles instead of triangles, and saw the sweet quilts that were made that way, I wanted to make that quilt.  But every February, when I saw a quilt that was made that way, I resisted.  I already have enough heart quilts. I need to work on some other holiday quilt, if I make a holiday quilt at all.

But then this month, I came across a quilt tutorial from Sew Can She. I was about to resist again, but then Project Quilting made it their challenge to make ...

My Valentines gift to you - Starry Hearts Doll Quilt instructions with a template for a seven pointed star

Have you ever made a seven pointed star?
It was a first for me - I enjoyed it and I think you might too.

The little bear has lost all most all of his mohair...and ears!
Shoe button eyes are a little loose.
She has lace trimmed sleeves and a plaid scarf - it is cold here.

The dolly is a printed ...

Final layout............ from Exuberant Color

Here is my final layout of the batik star quilt.  I need to sew on the left side and bottom edge sashing strips and then I can sew it all together.  I'm predicting it will be about 69" x 96" when sewn together.  I might consider a light print batik border but I won't know until I sew it together and then look through my fabrics.
I found the dotted fabric that I thought might work for some alternate blocks on the wonky heart quilt but I only have a quarter yard so there is enough for 8 ...

Sewing, cutting, bird watching........... from Exuberant Color

I showed 4 of these blocks that I made shortly after getting the Wonky Heart die for my die cutter.  I cut 12 more blocks yesterday and got them sewn last night.  They are only 6" finished and I only have a little more of the bright kitty print so I'll have to figure out what I can do to make the quilt bigger than 24" square.  I have enough of the black print to make quite a few more blocks so I really just need to find another bright print I like with these.  I'm thinking a ...
